Dr. Halliwell presented a seminar on “Evaluation of Targeted Ocean Observing Strategies for Improving Ocean Forecast Model Initialization Using a Rigorously Evaluated Fraternal Twin Ocean OSSE System”. The study analyzes the sea surface imprints of 83 hurricanes. Structures including the eye, meso-vortices, rain bands, and arc clouds are seen, and unusual observations, i.e., high wind within eye, are presented. HRD scientists participated in the 67th Interdepartmental Hurricane Conference/Tropical Cyclone Research Forum from 5-7 March 2013 remotely from NHC and AOML. Two HRD scientists (Drs.
