Tracking Matthew with NOAA’s hurricane hunter aircraft

The G-IV and the P3 will fly today to collect data in and around Matthew. NOAA43 – P3 aircraft will take off around at 11AM (1500 UTC) from St. Croix while the G-IV will take off at 1:30 PM (1730 UTC) from MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL. Below is the flight track for the G-IV jet. The dots on the track indicate the dropsonde launch locations. NOAA43 will fly a figure four pattern sampling all quadrants of Matthew. The data collected in these missions goes into the computer forecast models to improve the track and intensity forecasts.
