The G-IV is set to gather data around Hurricane Irma today

NOAA’s hurricane hunter G-IV jet aircraft is set to take off at 1:30 PM ET (1730 UTC) from Barbados to fly around Hurricane Irma. This flight will gather data around Irma’s environment. Knowing the environmental conditions helps us better understand Irma’s future track and intensity. Below is the proposed flight track. The dots on the G-IV flight track represent where they will launch dropwindsondes.
