Joe Cione and Erica Rule represented AOML at the Marlins Park for WFOR CBS Miami’s Weather Day. Over 10,000 school children came to the event before the 12:40 game between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets.
The Miami-South Florida Weather Forecast Office also participated, showcasing a weather balloon and the tornado simulator. Joe and Erica showed a dropwindsonde like those released from Hurricane Hunter aircraft to measure wind, temperature, and humidity in the hurricane, and the Coyote Unmanned Aircraft System that AOML hopes to test this year during a hurricane flight to obtain observations near the ocean surface.
