On February 2, 1994, the strongest tropical cyclone to strike Madagascar since 1927 made landfall. Its 110 mph (175 kph) winds left 231 people dead and over $10 million in damage. The storm struck just weeks after another tropical cyclone, Daisy, hit the island.
