Dr. Sean Jungbluth, an expert in microbial ecology and bioinformatics, joins NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory as a Research Scientist working with Dr. Luke Thompson and the Mississippi State Northern Gulf Institute. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and his B.S. in Bacteriology and Biology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has been at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in multiple roles for his post-doctoral and current work as a Research Scientist, including at the Joint Genome Institute. Sean has spent almost half a year at sea on field-based open ocean and deep-sea research, including three deep dives inside HOV Alvin. Sean is currently applying his metagenomics analysis skills to understand mysteries and stories contained within Bio-GO-SHIP microbial genomics data.
