Anthony Ryan Burke

Research Associate, Manager of the Experimental Reef Laboratory (ERL), NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory 

Anthony is a lifelong aquarium enthusiast with a penchant for coral aquaculture. He is a research associate with the Coral Program, manages the Experimental Reef Laboratory, participates in all aspects of research, and works on the development and manufacturing of research instruments, equipment, and aquarium systems.
Prior to joining the Coral Program in October of 2023, Anthony began his career as an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. He went on to work as a microbiologist studying genomics at the Miller School of Medicine before joining the staff of the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science in 2016. In his time at the University of Miami, Anthony has worked as a Biochemical research assistant in the Harmful Algal Bloom Laboratory, and as a Biogeochemical Research Associate II in the Tritium Laboratory. Anthony is also the Aquarium Master at the University of Miami, and the founder of a small business focusing on coral propagation and aquarium maintenance.
