Hurricane Field Program Update – Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 10 AM ET

The NOAA P-3, with HRD scientists on board, flew a successful research mission into Hurricane Florence yesterday afternoon in support of the Mature Stage Experiment of the Hurricane Field Program – Intensity Forecast Experiment, sampling the conclusion of the rapid intensification event that led to Florence strengthening to a Category 4.

NOAA42: The P-3 recovered in St. Croix after their research mission in Hurricane Florence yesterday. No flights are scheduled today.

NOAA49: The G-IV flew a synoptic surveillance mission around Hurricane Florence, collecting near-storm and environmental observations. Takeoff was from Lakeland around 2:00 AM EDT (0600 UTC) this morning. 1 HRD scientist was on this mission.

NOAA49: The G-IV aircraft is scheduled to fly another synoptic surveillance mission around Florence this afternoon. Takeoff is planned for 1:30 PM EDT (1730 UTC),  departing from and landing in Lakeland. No HRD scientists will be on this mission.

NOAA42: The P-3 will fly NHC-tasked reconnaissance missions into Hurricane Isaac, with takeoffs from St. Croix at 5:30 AST (0930 UTC) and 5:30 PM AST (2130 UTC). 3 HRD scientists will be on each mission.

NOAA49: The G-IV will fly synoptic surveillance missions around Hurricane Florence, collecting near-storm and environmental observations. Takeoff from Lakeland is scheduled at 1:30 AM EDT (0530 UTC) (1 HRD scientist will be on this mission) and 1:30 PM EDT (1730 UTC).
