NOAA49 is currently conducting a synoptic surveillance mission around Hurricane Dorian, and NOAA42 just took off from Lakeland for another EMC-tasked mission in Dorian. Details on this flight can be found in yesterday’s update. NOAA49 will conduct another synoptic surveillance mission around Hurricane Dorian, also Lakeland too Lakeland. Takeoff time will also be 0130 EDT (0530 UTC), and the mission is expected to last 8 h. The goal is to sample both Dorian and the ridge to its north.NOAA42 will then conduct another EMC-tasked mission in Dorian, taking off from Lakeland at 0530 EDT (0930 UTC) and recovering there about 8 h later.
NOAA42 and NOAA49 are then tasked to repeat these missions about 12 hours later. Both flights will be Lakeland to Lakeland. The G-IV will depart first, at 1330 EDT (1730 UTC) for its synoptic surveillance mission, sampling Dorian, the ridge to the north, and the upper-level to to its west.
The P3 will take off 3 hours later for its EMC-tasked mission, around 1630 EDT (2030 UTC). Both flights should last about 8 hours.
After that, we expect to continue these two-per-day flights through Saturday.
