The tropics remain extremely active, with Hurricane Dorian and four other systems in the Atlantic threatening to develop. This is keeping the NOAA Hurricane Field Program very busy indeed.
Tomorrow, the first mission will be a synoptic surveillance missions around Dorian, taking off from Lakeland and returning there about 8 hour later. The goal is to sample the environment around Dorian and the strength of the ridge to the north to see when and how fast Dorian will turn northward.
NOAA42 will conduct two missions Tuesday. The first is an 8-hour EMC-tasked mission into Dorian to gather data for assimilation into numerical models. NOAA42 will depart Lakeland at 0400 EDT (0800 UTC) and recover there about 8 hours later.
In the afternoon, NOAA42 will conduct an NHC-tasked invest mission into AL93 in the Guolf of Mexico. Takeoff will be from Lakeland at 1500 EDT (1900 UTC) with recovery there 8 hours later. If NHC does cancel that mission, a mission into Dorian will occur.
More flights are likely on Wednesday.
