Various Data Formats
Flight Data Formats

AOC Standard Tape format
This is the format the 1 second flight data is sent to us on
DAT tapes.

USAF 10 second data format
This is the format for the 10 second flight data
that is sent to us from the 53rd WRS.

Radar Tape format
This is the format of the sweeps for the Lower Fuscelage radar.

RVP-5 Radar Tape format
This is the format of the RVP-5 radar system.

SFMR data format
This is the format of the Stepped Frequency Microwave Radiometer
data. This instrument estimates surface wind and subaircraft
rain from a passive radiometer.

AXBT data format
This is the format of the data from Airborne eXpendable
BathyThermographs, which take temperature vs depth soundings
of the ocean.

Cloud Physics data format
This is the format of the cloud physics data collected by
NOAA P3 aircraft.
Dropsonde Data Formats

HSA format
HRD Spline Analysis format; ASCII table format where the
numerical values of temperature, humidity, pressure, and
winds are fit to a series of splines.

AVAPS format
Airborne Vertical Atmospheric Profiling System format; ASCII
table format where the giving the output from the AVAPS
dropsonde workstation. This is usually the raw output.

TEMPDROP format
The TEMPDROP code for each sounding is an ASCII file of the
TTAA & TTBB drop messages. One file for each drop.
