Hurricane Field Program Update — Wednesday, September 4, 2019, 5pm EDT

NOAA42 is currently scheduled for three more flights into Hurricane Dorian.  If they all go as scheduled, this will total 15 missions into the storm.  The first departed about an hour ago from Lakeland.  The two future flights will take off at 4am/4pm EDT (0800/2000 UTC) on 5 September.  Each will involve multiple passes through the center of the hurricane, with some additional work to measure near landfall radar crews if they are deployed in the area.  After that, it is time for a good, long rest for all the crews and aircraft that worked so hard to make all these flights possible.
