Both NOAA43 and NOAA49 are now in Barbados prepared for missions into Hurricane Lorenzo. NOAA49 will conduct a NESDIS Satellite Validation and Diurnal Cycle Experiment, takeoff from Barbados 0800 AST/EDT (1200 UTC). The goal is to sample the region around Lorenzo, including the Saharan Air Layer, and regions deemed sensitive to future forecasts. There will also be a NOAA-20 satellite overpass around 1613 UTC, and the aircraft will sample that region as well.
In addition, NOAA43, hoping for its first successful mission into a hurricane since refurbishment, will take off from Barbados at the same time for Mature Stage research objectives, including SFMR Validation, and NESDIS Ocean Winds. The aircraft will ferry to Lorenzo and perform a small figure-4 pattern before maneuvering in supporting of these goals.
Finally, so that NOAA42 can be added to the mix, it will ferry from Lakeland to Barbados, departing at 1000 EDT (1400 UTC).
