NOAA42: The P-3 is flying an HRD and NESDIS tasked research mission into Florence, that took off from Bermuda this morning at 08:00 AM EDT. 3 HRD scientists are on this mission. The P-3 is flying a butterfly pattern to measure the inner core. The goal is to collect wind data from a Doppler radar onboard, as well as vertical profiles of temperature, relative humidity, and wind from dropsondes in various parts of the storm to understand how vertical wind shear is modifying the intensification of Florence.
Flight track for the NOAA P-3 mission into Florence
NOAA49: The G-IV aircraft is scheduled to fly around Florence and collect environmental observations. Takeoff is planned for 1:30 PM EDT (1730 UTC) from St. Croix and landing in Lakeland.
