NOAA42: The P-3 is flying an HRD and NESDIS-tasked research mission into Florence, that took off from Bermuda this morning at 09:00 AM EDT. 2 HRD scientists are on this mission. The P-3 is flying a butterfly pattern to measure the inner core. The goal is to collect wind, temperature and relative humidity observations as Florence intensifies and transmit the data to be used by both forecasters and numerical models. When the mission is complete, the P-3 will recover in St. Croix.
Planned flight track for the NOAA P-3 mission into Florence:
NOAA49: The G-IV aircraft began 12-hourly missions to collect near-storm and environmental observations. Takeoff from Lakeland was delayed to 3:30 AM EDT (0730 UTC). 1 HRD scientist was on this mission.
NOAA49: The G-IV aircraft is scheduled to fly around Florence and collect environmental observations. Takeoff is planned for 1:30 PM EDT (1730 UTC) departing from and landing in Lakeland.
