Every weekday AOML scientists and collaborators get together for 30 minutes to discuss the tropical forecast and potential opportunities to conduct research. This week employees from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) led the forecast discussion.
The decreased activity in the Atlantic basin was the primary topic of this week’s map discussions. NHC forecaster Dave Zelinsky said the Tropical Weather Outlook, issued Friday, September 25, is the first time NHC is not expecting any new tropical cyclones in the next five days since August 2, 2020. The forecasters also discussed the dissipation of Tropical Storm Beta and Hurricane Teddy.

AOML scientists will host student forecasters from the State University of New York at Albany for next week’s map discussions.
