This webpage provides access to near-real-time time-series of the availability of overall favorable conditions for bluefin tuna larvae in the Gulf of Mexico.
Time-series of favorable areas for bluefin tuna larvae are computed as follows where BFT_GOM is an index computed as a function of time t
that indicates the overall percentage of favorable areas for bluefin tuna larvae in
the Gulf of Mexico. In this formula, i indicates the location of individual
grid points, t the time-dependency, and N the total number of grid points
in the Gulf of Mexico (N=1487).
BFT Spawning in Gulf of Mexico is reported during the Northern Hesmisphere Spring months, with BFT larvae being captured mostly from early-April to late-May.
Dates available: 03/01/1993 - present
Notice: These time-series, and derived quantities, are updated on a monthly basis.

Values reported inside the color-coded boxes indicate spring-time residuals of percentage of favorable areas for bluefin tuna larvae in the Gulf of Mexico. Positive residuals indicate a higher than usual availability of favorable areas, whereas negative residuals indicate lower than usual availability of favorable areas.
