IFEX daily log
Wednesday, July 20, 2005
Today was another day in Tampa. Repairs were being completed on N43RF, but
a 50-hr maintenance was required on Thursday. So the earliest the N43RF could deploy
to Acapulco was on Friday. N42RF would remain in Tampa. No ER-2 flights were
planned.
Emily was coming ashore today, and Eugene had dissipated. There were no
immediate prospects for the East Pacific. A strong wave was approaching Central
America, with convection over the land. An upper-level cold low was evident in water
vapor imagery in the central Caribbean. This feature was propagating westward,
initiating convection on the southern periphery of it. The possible target in the East
Pacific is associated with the wave in the western Caribbean, at a longitude of about 85
W. Assuming a motion of about 5 deg/day, this would place the wave at about 95 W on
Friday, which would be in range of Acapulco. North of Hispaniola there was a persistent
area of deep convection indicating possible development there.
