The database will be provided on CD-ROM and be made available to the scientific community. Hopefully this will stimulate further investigation into both the hydrological structure of the Black Sea and the connection and interaction of this structure with hydrochemical, hydrobiological, and hydrometeorological parameters, as well as the response of an enclosed sea to climatic changes in the Europe-North Atlantic climate system. Reliable and exhaustive estimates of climatic parameters will permit researchers to monitor the variability in environmental conditions and possibly determine trends. This is particularly important because the Black Sea is presently included in the list of the world's most contaminated sea basins. Studies of the climatic condition of the Black Sea are interesting and important in their own right but they may also provide insights into the climatic conditions and variability of other ocean basins through comparative studies.
