Global Ocean Observations:

AOML is contributing to the Global Observing system by collecting Global Ocean observations for weather and climate forecast as well as for scientific research. The main sustained observational projects conducted and managed at AOML are:

  1. Upper ocean and surface marine meteoroglogical measurements made by the VOS/XBT and surface drifter Global Arrays. AOML manages data collection, quality control of the data, real-time data access, and distribution of products that characterize the upper ocean. In addition, AOML developes new observational and data management systems.

  2. ARGO: AOML developed, implemented and maintain data management for the US component of the ARGO global array. AOML deploys the Atlantic ARGO. More information available at the AOML/ARGO project page.

  3. High Density lines: AOML maintain 3 High density XBT lines (AX7, AX10, and AX8) in the Atlantic. AOML is involved in data collection, quality control and distribution. A new line (AX18) will be started in 2002. More information available at the High Density XBT project page
