The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to task NOAA’s Hurricane Hunter aircraft NOAA43 into Tropical Storm Hanna located in the Gulf of Mexico. AOML radar and dropsonde experts are providing remotely-based data processing in support of these operational missions. The flights are scheduled to continue through Saturday morning, July 25, 2020.
The second mission in the series took off from Lakeland, FL at 5:30AM EDT on Friday, July 24. It completed three transects through the center of Hanna to study the progression of the storm development. The mission in progress took off at 5:30PM EDT with the same objective to track the evolution of the storm position and strength.
Hanna was upgraded to a tropical storm status on Friday morning. NHC forecasts bring it up to a category 1 hurricane as it makes landfall in southern Texas on Saturday afternoon.
