CalCOFI Cruise Aboard NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada

The California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI) cruise sampling was completed on April 21st aboard NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada. NOAA and partners participated in the first of two field tests of a prototype long-range autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) equipped with genomic sampling capability developed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). Scientists collected samples by traditional methods for comparison to the eAUVs ability to intelligently sample water column features, such as the chlorophyll maximum.
