Supervisory Research Physical Scientist, ZP5

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML), with one vacancy in Miami, FL.

As a Supervisory Research Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

  1. Serve as the Division Director of the Hurricane Research Division of Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). Provide technical scientific leadership involving tropical cyclone meteorology, physics, oceanography, hydrology, and social science with respect to research conducted in the Division. Carry out multifaceted scientific investigations of the physics of atmospheric and oceanic circulations, hydrology, and air-sea interaction to improve understanding and prediction of extreme weather such as hurricanes.
  2. Formulate the hypotheses determining the most appropriate research strategy and methodology. Develop research plans and required investigations. Publish research in scientific journals and present research findings at national and international scientific meetings or other appropriate venues. Review manuscripts, papers, and proposals as requested by editors of scientific journals or for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other funding agencies.
  3. Provide full range of supervisory functions to include making decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors. Evaluate subordinate supervisors and serve as the reviewing official on evaluations of nonsupervisory employees rated by subordinate supervisors. Make or approve selections for subordinate nonsupervisory positions. Recommend selections for subordinate supervisory positions or project director positions responsible for coordinating the work of others, and similar positions.
