-- OACES I8 REPEAT MASTER DATABASE -- I8 Repeat of the OACES Indian Ocean cruise started in Fremantle, Australia on September 22, 1995 and terminated in Male in the Maldive Islands on October 25, 1995. Samples were taken at 101 stations. The following database contains niskin samples from all stations except the first (test station). The cruise can be divided into three sections: the 95 degree line (stations 3 thru 17), the middle section from the 95 degree line to the 80 degree line (stations 18 thru 35), and the 80 degree line (stations 36 thru 101). The 95 degree line was followed from 43 degrees to 31.75 degrees south latitude with one degree spacing except for the last four stations which were closer together. The 80 degree lines was followed from 34 degrees south to 5.8 degrees north with one degree spacing to 15 degrees south and 0.5 degrees spacing elsewhere except for the section one degree south to one degree north, where 0.25 degree spacing was used. The nutrient and carbon group did not take any samples at station 74; therefore, station 74 contains no data for nutrients, PCO2, TALK or TCO2. This file is a chronology of changes and/or additions to the master database for the NOAA OACES Indian Ocean, I8 Repeat cruise, conducted late September through late October, 1995. The data file accompanying this file has the basic structure of I8RX.DBF, where the X represents the most recent change in an alphabetical format. Example: I8RC.DBF, or I8RD.DBF. This file you are now reading should always accompany the master datafile. Other accompanying files are I8R.QC (a listing of the quality control flags) and a .CSV (comma-delimited) file. Description of sampling and analyses protocols and paper copy of the data can be found in: Peltola, E., R. Wanninkhof, R. Molinari, B. Huss, et. al., Chemical and hydrographic measurements from the NOAA/OACES I8 Repeat section, ERL AOML-34, Miami, 1998. AOU DATA The apparent oxygen utilization, AOU (micromol/kg) is calculated as the solubility for oxygen at the measured salinity and potential temperature minus the observed oxygen concentration. The solubility for oxygen at the measured salinity and potential temperature is determined from the algorithms presented in Weiss (1970). Note that at low temperature the solubility determined by Weiss is up to 2 micromol/kg higher than determined by Benson and Krause (1984) or Garcia and Gordon (1992). Weiss, R.F., The solubility of nitrogen, oxygen and argon in water and seawater, Deep-Sea Research, 17, 721-735, 1970.
