The maximum possible inland sustained wind
speeds (kt) for a hurricane that makes landfall
with
maximum sustained winds of 85 kt and a forward speed of 30 kt
as determined using the empirical New England
Decay Model. The wind speeds depicted were obtained assuming that
the hurricane traveled the
minimum distance from the coast to a given location and the storm's
strongest
winds passed directly over that location. The three letter codes for
select
National Weather Service (NWS) forecast offices are
shown for reference. These stations are as follows: NYC (New York),
HFD (Hartford), BOS (Boston), CON (Concord), and PWM (Portland).
