Vertical velocity, electric field potental, and 2-D particle number
concentration for a high-altitude pass in Hurricane Claudette, 8
September 1992. Temperature in the updraft (a) was -5.5 C on the inside edge at
2319:20, and -12 C at the outer edge at 2320:30. The peak vertical field (b)
occurred in the updraft, and corresponds to a negative charge center
above the aircraft. Two-dimensional probe number concentration (c) shows
the high concentration (~100/l) of small particles and 2/l of graupel in the
updraft. No 2D-P image data are available from 2320:00 to 2324:00.
