NOAA Miami Regional Library: NHC Location


Introduction:

The NOAA Miami Regional Library is a branch of the Library and Information Services Division, Central Library in Silver Spring, Maryland. There are two libraries in the Miami Branch: one located at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the other located at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). The following information concerns the NHC location.

Library Hours:

The library doors are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the NOAA staff. The library is open to the public by appointment for reference use only. Library services are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Including Robert Sheets Special Collection

Hurricane Damage Economic Impacts, Disaster Awareness, Satellite Recon Evaluation, Hurricane Mitigation, Congressional Testimony, Flood Insurance Programs, NHC, Past, Present, and Future.

Tropical meteorology: hurricanes, cyclones, typhoons, aeronautical meteorology, local handwritten weather records, anecdotal hurricane experiences, coastal building and construction, wind studies, Caribbean and foreign meteorological collection, photographs, videos, slides, newspaper articles of hurricane damage, and professional journals

  • In-depth reference and research, SDI to researchers.

  • Computer-based information retrieval of citations, abstracts, and full text from more than 500 databases.

  • Interlibrary loan in special circumstances only. Document delivery to researchers. Open to the general public for research by appointment.

  • Library PC's providing entry to weather databases held locally, and a gateway to Internet resources.

  • Microfilm/microfiche readers and a copy machine are available.

  • In-library access to NOAALINC, our automated catalog. The catalog contains the holdings of our library, as well as 25 NOAA libraries across the country.

  • Publications: acquisitions list.
