from:lu02 to:ax07@noaa.gov subject:Re: Amverseas issues Hi Zach, I think I've seen this before. This is more likely due to veering slight west. I think the algorithm we came up with assumes that the ship will never backtrack. Stay on a time based drop plan until you know the ship will not back track and switch to position based so we can test it some more. Other than that, the profiles look good. Thanks, Pedro ax07 wrote: Hi Pedro, I've run into some weird issues with Amverseas. I think I've tracked it down to us being on a course that's more northerly than easterly. I came back from lunch to find that Amverseas had done the drop as planned during that time, but had done 2 redrops immediately after and was starting a third. I'm convinced it would have run me out of XBTs if I had not noticed. I noticed on the last deployment that we were slightly west of where we were on the last drop. We're going great circle, so we have to go above the bahamas. I think they started heading north after leaving the port aimed for the Bahamas. So, for now, I have the time drop plan engaged and will keep an eye on that as well as change it back once we level out a bit and are definitely heading west to east again. Let me know if you have any questions. Best, Zach
