Western Boundary Time Series (WBTS) - Readme.txt The data files in this directory are have been collected using inverted echo sounders (IES), pressure-equipped inverted echo sounders (PIES), and current-and-pressure-equipped inverted echo sounders (CPIES). The data files here are organized by site; the IES/PIES/CPIES component of the WBTS project started in 2004, and all data files start from the same common starting date in September 2004. The nominal locations and depths for each site are: Site A Latitude: 26.5156 N Longitude: 76.8336 W Depth: 1020 m Site B Latitude: 26.4913 N Longitude: 76.4692 W Depth: 4805 m Site C Latitude: 26.5015 N Longitude: 76.0875 W Depth: 4766 m Site D Latitude: 26.5027 N Longitude: 75.7053 W Depth: 4656 m Site E Latitude: 26.5000 N Longitude: 71.9992 W Depth: 5233 m These locations have shifted slightly from deployment to deployment, but changes have been very small (< 1 nm). Missing data records are denoted by -999.9999. When certain data types are not collected (e.g. PIES do not collect velocity), the record is also denoted by -999.9999. Data are presented as daily averages centered at noon GMT each day. The variables collected are: Date: Year, Month, and Day Tau1000: Travel time integrated between the surface and 1000 dbar. (Calibration CTD casts have been used to establish the 'correction' from travel time measured at the actual depth of the IES/PIES/CPIES.) Pressure: Pressure is a temporal anomaly relative to the long-term time mean. U, V: Zonal and meridional velocity components, respectively, relative to true North. Velocity is measured approximately 50 m above the ocean bottom.
