The clock on the aircraft was set backwards (!!!) by about 6 1/2 minutes during the downwind leg between the 2nd and 3rd centers (between passes 4 and 5). The position did not jump, so this was not a duplication of data. Approx. 7 minutes of data were deleted and the analysis continued. The actual time between the 2nd and 3rd centers is about 7.5 percent less than the nominal time, which will slightly distort the translational motion of the storm and the speed of development during this period. The 03U1 and 04I flights were unprocessable. In each case, the storm had just passed over land, and was disorganized. The wind and pressure curves were very flat, and it was impossible to find valid centers. The first pair of passes for this storm are not entirely reliable. MITCH98 was very weak at that point, and it is difficult to find a reliable center in weak storms - both the tan wind and pressure curves are fairly flat, making the overall center poorly defined.
