Took off on 5303 at 28/1233Z, but had to turn back shortly after takeoff due to drop pallet critical failure error message. Landed at 28/1306Z and met shop tried to troubleshoot the pallet. It required more time, so we switched to the spare plane (5304). Worked through starting engine checklist and had a high pressure caution between engine 3 and engine 4 start. Shut down, tried again and had the same error so we switched to a third spare (5306). Took off again at 28/1607Z for a late fix around 28/2009Z. Only made one penetration and cut the mission short due to severe turbulence, rapid intensification, and ragged convection around the "eyewall" of the storm. Ultimately the crew made the decision that it was no longer safe to go back through (rapidly lost airspeed) and turned back home before we were able to complete the full alpha pattern.
