Root-mean-square differences between regression estimates and the observed salinity were computed for 31 profiles within 2° longitude and 0.5° latitude of 40°W, 31°N, which were not used for determining the coefficients for the 16 regression models at each of 64 different pressure levels.
These verification errors are displayed below to show (a) the performance of each model at each level; (b) the errors for the best model at each level; and (c) errors for four models that do well over a range of levels.
