Surface Currents Quarterly Reports

Search report assessing how well the Global Drifter Array is satisfying the GOOS/GCOS (1999) requirement for surface current measurements.

In 2013, Lumpkin et al. showed that many drifters in the historical data base had lost their drogues, but these losses had not been detected. Lumpkin et al. (2013) derived a methodology to reevaluate drogue presence. As of January 2013, all quarterly reports reflect our new knowledge of which drifters had drogues attached. All earlier reports were regenerated so that they also reflect these new results. These updated reports are more pessimistic than earlier versions, which erroneously treated undrogued drifters as drogued.
