These web pages are provided to aid in the analysis of Delay_mode floats following the DMQC methodology. This analysis is for all D_mode floats with at least one profile in the SAARC region (20N to 40S, and 70W to 20E). A few floats were omitted, such as those with no good PSAL values.
Each float analyzed has a basic float page, and a set of individual profile pages. (A sample of a basic float page and two profile pages are given below for float 1900287.)
Most figures are 1/2 to 1/3 size, and link to full-sized figures. These are surrounded by a colored box.
Three tables are provided to allow direct acces to each floats' page: one table that just lists all floats being analyzed (sorted by the WNOId). A second table lists all the data centers, and links to a table for each data centers' floats. Finally, a third table lists as principal investigators, with links to a list for each of these.
Table of Principal Investigators NOTE: Only the first float for each PI is populated
Currently, each float was compared to three data sets. A fourth set (John Gilsons' Argo only climatology is to be added.) These data sets are:
1. The Levitus WOA05 global monthly climatology - 1 degree resolution in latitude and longitude, monthly mean and standard deviation for temperature and salinity at 14 depths between 400m and 2000m
2. The Navy GDEM3 global monthly climatology - quarter degree resolution in latitude and longitude, monthly mean for temperature and salinity at 15 depths between 400 and 2000m.
3. Subsurface profile data from all available Argo profiles, CTD, XBT, and other types of profiles as available. All profiles within a selected time/distance "box" are termed "buddies". For this test 10 days and 150km were used as the envelope. For a given profile being analyzed, any other profiles 10 days before or after the target that were within 150 km were used as "buddies" for the target profile.
In the next release, a fourth data set will be added. John Gilson's 1-degree global Argo-only monthly climatology.
The Summary plots compare the mean and standard deviation of the differences in temperature and salinity between float profiles and the Levitus and "Buddy" data sets by float
Sample basic float page for WMOId: 1900287
Sample individual profile page for WMOID.profile: 1900287.053 (example with buddies)
Sample individual profile page for WMOID.profile: 1900287.002 (example without buddies)
Climatology comparisons: Levitus (WOA05), Navy (GDE3) and Argo-only(SIO).
Planned modifications/additions:
Summary plots:
Add slope of the differences to plots
Add hot spots to full-size tables linking to each float
Tables:
Make a summary table of statistics (summary plots in tabuler form).
Make a table of notes on each float. (notes currently kept in each floats' basic page)
Basic float page:
Time series plots only have profile number - add date/time information to x-axis
