This webpage provides access to near-real-time time-series of the availability of overall favorable conditions for bluefin tuna larvae in the Gulf of Mexico.


Time-series of favorable areas for bluefin tuna larvae are computed as follows where BFT_GOM is an index computed as a function of time t that indicates the overall percentage of favorable areas for bluefin tuna larvae in the Gulf of Mexico. In this formula, i indicates the location of individual grid points, t the time-dependency, and N the total number of grid points in the Gulf of Mexico (N=1487).


BFT Spawning in Gulf of Mexico is reported during the Northern Hesmisphere Spring months, with BFT larvae being captured mostly from early-April to late-May.
