  • SOLUTION
  •  1. Carry onboard GPS receiver
  •  2. Log all data for later recovery and analysis.  Therefore must recover buoy!!!
  •  3. Use SERVICE ARGOS to transmit approximate position to shore
  •  4. Use ARGOS handheld receiver to home in on buoy for recovery

  • BUOY OPERATING PARAMETERS
  •  1. Power: Alkaline D cell battery pack 15VDC
  •  2. Operating lifetime approximately 30 days
  •  3. GPS receiver: Motorola ONCORE 12 channel ($120 including antenna)
  •  3. Sample rate: one GPS position every 4 minutes to one GPS position every hour
  •  4. Onboard memory capacity: 16384 positions (date, time, lat, lon, pdop, status)
  •  6. Setup, checkout and data download thru serial port
  •  7. Transmits three most recent positions to shore via SERVICE ARGOS
