Atlantic Decadal Variability
- Combining observations and models to investigate predictability
On January 10-12, 2007, a group of about 30 scientists met at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory to discuss Atlantic decadal variability. The workshop was second in a series of meetings on this topic, the first having been held at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in June 2006. The first workshop focused on the modeling issues (e.g. resolution, initialization) involved in decadal prediction, while the second workshop had the primary goal of developing a road-map of how observations and models can be used together to work towards a decadal prediction system for the Atlantic.
The scientists involved in the two workshops are preparing a white paper listing their recommendations for how the U.S. research community should move forward towards this goal. When the white paper is prepared, it will be available on this web page. At present the web page lists the agenda of the second workshop, and there are links to each of the invited oral presentations in PDF format. Please note a few slides have been removed from some of the talks for reasons of preserving the authors ability to publish them in the future.
