The Remote Sensing Division (RSD), a division of the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML), focuses on two main research areas: (1) coastal ocean processes and anthropogenic discharges there in and, (2) underwater acoustic measurement of rainfall over ocean areas. Using acoustics and other advanced technologies the role of ocean features and processes in sewage effluent and dredge material transport and dispersal is investigated. Integration of underwater acoustical measurements with satellite derived measurements is being explored both in conjunction with oceanic rainfall measurements and coastal environmental pollution studies.
