If you are looking for the status, forecast track, or any watches and warnings for current hurricanes or tropical storms, please go to the OAR website where that information is available. Our site only contains non-time sensitive research datasets on storms.

If you click on Hurricane FAQ you will find Dr. Chris Landsea's Frequently Asked Questions which may answer many of your basic questions about hurricanes, typhoons, and tropical cyclones. This is an excellent resource for students and teachers.
For more general information on hurricanes NOAA maintains a hurricane page. The Atlantic Tropical Cyclone Outlook will take you to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center's latest outlook for Atlantic hurricane activity.


Storm Shutters is a brief review of various hurricane shutter types and instructions on how to make plywood versions. Under Weather Room we list the weather statistics from our instruments here on Virginia Key, but for Current Weather you will go to the National Weather Service (NWS) page for Miami, Florida. Hurricane Awarness will take you to the NWS's webpage on that subject. You will also find similar items on our Links page.
