Team Objective:

The main goal of this team is to acquire expertise in operating and evaluating the Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting (HWRF) model. The ability to run the operational version of this model will enable HRD to play a role in evaluating the performance of the model using the observations collected as a part of HRDÕs annual Field Program efforts. Furthermore, contributions toward the development of techniques for transmitting and ingesting this data into the HWRF modeling system can be made here. Finally, running the HWRF will enable scientific studies to be conducted at HRD that can improve our knowledge and understanding of physical processes occurring within tropical cyclones and their environments, providing the opportunity for further advancements in the prediction of tropical cyclone track, intensity, and rainfall.
