Major Hurricanes = Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale 3, 4, or 5
"ACE" - Accumilated Cyclone Energy = An index that combines the numbers of systems, how long they existed and how intense they became. It is calculated by squaring the maximum sustained surface wind in the system every six hours and summing it up for the season. It is expressed in 10 to the 4th kt**2.
U.S. Hurricanes = Number of U.S. Hurricane strikes. Inside the parenthesis is the highest Saffir-Simpson Scale category for each U.S. hurricane at landfall.
Blue highlight indicates that revisions have been made. The remainder of the 20th century is currently under revision.
