Mission Briefing:

This mission was designed to collect data for the NESDIS ocean winds and rain experiment, collect data for CBLAST objectives, test/practice coordination between planes for future CBLAST missions, and test coordination for the high density 12 dropsonde experiment through the eyewall.


Mission Synopsis

The NOAA P-3 aircraft completed a shortened CBLAST/Ocean Winds mission this afternoon into Tropical Storm Hanna. Both planes left MacDill around noon EDT today. N43RF returned at 4:00 p.m. after a bird hit the plane and the nose radome suffer minor damage. N42RF returned at 4:30 PM after encountering problems with the IWRAP instruments.
