REMARKS:
Originally tasked for 18z Invest. Area became Sub-Tropical Storm Beryl before
alert time. Tasking became 18Z INVEST became 18Z Low Level Fix with full
Alpha (2 center fix points) with NO Drops required.
Took off 3hours late due to MX issues below. Late fix time of: 20:41z.
Mission considered LATE but NOT MISSED - per John Pavone CARCAH.
No drops in storm environment. 1 Drop during descent for Load currency.
Drop HSS from 500mb was: 5830 (plane was: 5819 - 11 off from sonde)
Late because originally scheduled to fly on 5302.
SFMR was INOP on that plane. It had been written up day before. MX
worked it and signed off on it. They "fixed" the wrong part though.
They were supposed to change out US014 POD, but
didn't. US014 was unflyable. Found out this morning after showtime.
We went to spare (5307). 5307 then had multiple breakdowns on ARWO pallet
prior to take off. SATCOM Keys had to be reloaded - got zeroed somehow.
Computer couldn't talk to 1553 bus. Had to get new computer. New computer
then didn't work, and HDD wouldn't connect, no SFMR connectivity, and
no Variables input to Mission Manager. Had to get a 3rd computer. Then,
they couldn't get new computer in pallet - brackets got bent trying to
get it in.
Also, SFMR data stream cut out en route to storm. Had to shut down SFMR
and restart. Also, during first INBOUND leg, Mission Manager locked up when
trying to generate a COR for 1st RECCO. Had to restart MM. Locked again.
Tried a third time. Asked CARCAH to amend OB at their end. Pavone COR'd
it for us.
