Committee Meetings
No committee meetings were called this year. Committee business was
accomplished through email and telephone conferencing.

AMS Scientific/Technical Meetings arranged or sponsored
The 23rd AMS Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology
has been arranged this year. The conference takes place at the AMS annual
meeting, 11-15 January 1999 in Dallas, TX.

Proposed Future AMS Scientific/Technical Meetings
It is proposed that the 24th AMS Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical
Meteorology will be held in May 2000.

Notes on other committee activities
The committee has undertaken to review the AMS Statement on Hurricane
Detection, Tracking, and Forecasting. Dr Christopher Landsea is this
committee's liaison.

Recommendations/problems/issues
A number of issues relating predominantly to organization and implementation
of large meetings have arisen over this year. These are planned for discussion
at the next committee meeting

selection and nomination procedures for awards

funding of students to conferences/workshops

Max Eaton award selection for a huge student pool
This report covers the period 1 January through 31 December 1998.
