This database covers Choctawhatchee Bay, an 86,000 acre estuary located in Northwest Florida near the cities of Destin and Fort Walton Beach (view location map). Its primary source of fresh water inflow is the Choctawhatchee River, which drains 4000 sq miles in the Florida Panhandle and lower Alabama. It is the third largest estuarine system on the Florida Gulf coast, and is widely recognized for its recreational and commercial importance. The bibliographic references contained in this database cover the research that has been performed on Choctawhatchee Bay, the Choctawhatchee River, and the nearby coastal waters from 1960 to 2005. For more information on the Choctawhatchee Bay virtual library, please contact Emily Harrell.
