READSF6 file: Readme me file for UWSF6.CSV: size: 726 K; last update: 11/6/96 11/6/96: extrapolatedd 10 GPS locations which were in error The UWSF6.CSV file is a comma delimited file. It contains data from the underway SF6 system which analyzes samples in the headspace of a 1-liter equilibrator . The equilibrator draws water from the bow intake at 5-m depth at a rate of 2 l/min. The system was used to track the tracer patch. Air is circulated from the headspace in the equilibrator through a sample loop and injected into a gas chromatograph at 3-minute intervals. When a pre designated response from the detector is obtained, the headspace is flushed with nitrogen. The file contains the following columns: Sample: Sample type for the underway SF6 system; WAT: headspace analysis; STD: Standard with concentration of 117 ppt (parts per trillion); FLS: Headspace analysis after the headspace is flushed with nitrogen. The FLS is an indicator that the ship was in the tracer patch JD: fractional julian day (Note: 1996 is a leap year) Date: Calendar date Time: Time (GMT) Local time is: GMT- 4 hrs Lat: decimal latitude as determined from a GPS receiver. (Note: due to interference, the position is not always updated correctly) Long: decimal longitude as determined from a GPS receiver. (Note: due to interference, the position is not always updated correctly) R.Time: retention time of the SF6 peak on the gas chromatographic column Area: peak area of the SF6 signal on the integrator Peak: peak height of the SF6 signal on the integrator SST: Sea surface temperature obtained from a thermosalinograph at the bow intake (5-m depth) Salinity: Salinity obtained from a thermosalinograph at the bow intake (5-m depth) Fluor: Fluorometer signal of a Turner fluorometer located in the OCEA lab from water from the bow line disc SF6: Quantitative SF6 value (in ppt, parts per trillion by volume) from syringe samples taken from the bow line when the ship was in the tracer patch.
