ANNOUNCEMENT

Florida Bay Nutrient Biogeochemistry Team Workshop

Date: Wednesday, October 25, 2000

Time: 9:15 AM - 4 PM

Place: AOML (NOAA) Conference Room, Virginia Key, Miami

You are invited to participate in a workshop that will consider our current understanding of nutrient transport and cycling in Florida Bay and the effects of potential Everglades and Florida Bay restoration efforts. Collectively, we have been researching Bay's nutrient biogeochemistry for several years and a synthesis of this information is needed. Our results can be used to answer one of the central questions associated with Bay restoration (Question 2 of the Florida Bay Science Program): what is the relative importance of external nutrient sources and internal nutrient cycling in determining the Florida bay nutrient budget?

Workshop Objectives:

  1. State and refine hypotheses as to the effects of increasing freshwater flow on the Bay’s nutrient budget.

  2. Evaluate alternative hypotheses using current information and if this information is insufficient, determine what data needs to be collected.

  3. Outline a synthesis paper for presentation at the April 2001 Florida Bay Science Conference.

While this workshop will be in a discussion format, without detailed seminars, you are encouraged to bring highlights of your results (an overhead projector and slide projector will be available).
